Airtel smartbyte fraud
« on: October 02, 2013, 04:00:17 PM »
I have an Airtel Broadband connection in my home and having this connection for past 2+ years now. Recently I found that the smartbyte is getting activated without any reason means I have never applied for it at all but it gets activated and comes in the bill. I have called the Airtel customer care 121 and filed a complaint but they say that its from your IP which got activated and we have nothing to do for it.  :(

What should be done for this now? Can someone help?   ???

Hi,

I can understand how that will be for you. You can raise this issue to Consumer court and make sure you are practicing your consumer rights.

It's really sad to see a company which is in the top position doing this type of activities. I am one of the victim who had the same issue of smartybytes getting activated on its own.

Last month I got a bill of Rs.4k+ where in 3K+ was just the smartbyte charges. I called the customer care like 20+ times and told them that am not ready to pay even a penny if the samrtbyte charges not going to be removed. Being a platinum customer they told we ll waver the amount but till date I didn't get a proper bill statement which says about the wavering amount from their side.

My connection is already disconnected from their end because of not paying the outstanding amount and am waiting for around 3-4 days for their call to confirm me about the bill statement and there is no care from them what so ever. I am just still holding on to them just for the sake I had a good connection for past 2 yrs. Will wait for some more days and if they are going to ignore then well and good I will move out to better operators who will respect the customers and give immediate solutions for the problem.

I have sent a tweet to @Airtel_Presence regarding your issue. They use to reply on that soon, hopefully your problem should be fixed soon!!

You can do the same if you have an twitter account. Just tweet your issue with @Airtel_Presence in the content and they will be responding to your directly to fix your problem.

Now after 3 months of followback I got all the smartbyte charged money reverted back finally. I clearly stated to the airtel customer care that "I am not ready to pay the bill which showed up with all the smartbyte charged" and for past 3 months I was getting internet but still the smartbyte charged were not reverted since they have some limit of only Rs.999 to be removed from the bill in a month.

Got around 50+ msgs and mails from airtel 121 asking me to pay the outstanding amount if not the internet will be disconnected and I didn't bother for that since I am ready to move out from Airtel already if they are not going to fix the smartbyte issue and now after 3 months I got the entire smartbyte charges reverted back and I paid the 3 months normal internet charges as well.

Gave Airtel just one important feedback among many - "Listen and be updated about what your customer problem is" because everytime I get a call from them it will be like "What's your problem sir?" and I have to start all again from A to Z.. I am pretty sure that no one will be patient enough to do that for 20+ times.

Anyways right now am happy that this smartbytes things are done with me and am still sticking with Airtel just because of one simple reason that they "Fixed my problem" and hoping that I won't be having this type of issues anymore in future..!
